Step by Step Process on Installing Chevy 2500HD Leveling Kit
Why invest in a professional when you can do it at home! Save more or less $300 by installing the leveling kit to your Chevy! How? Read it out!
Step 1: Disconnect the Sway Bar Link
First of all, you have to get the help of a frame. With the help of a frame, you have to raise your vehicle first. Once it is raised, you have to support your Chevy 2500hd with the frame. Once the front wheels are on the air, it’s time for you to remove them.
Get your hands on them and take off the front wheels or wires. After this, you have to go through the sway bar end link. All you need to do is disconnect it. The Chevy 2500hd leveling kit installation process is more or less like any other truck leveling kit installation process!
Step 2: Loosen the Upper Ball Joint Nut
Once you have gone through the sway bar end link and have disconnected it, your next job is to go through the ABS/brake link bracket. The brake line bracket on the upper control arm should be disconnected here.
Go through this one and disconnect it. When you are done, check the ABS bracket on the spindle. Again, your job is to disconnect it.
It’s time you should go for the upper ball joint nut. You don’t need to remove it. Instead, your work is to loosen it. While loosening it, make sure you have left the nut attached and not completely removed.
Step 3: Take off the ball Joint Nut
When you have loosened the nut already, get your hands on a hammer not. With the hammer, you have to strike the spindle. Your job here is to loosen the ball joint. Use your hammer carefully and refrain yourself from breaking anything.
Once you have loosened the ball joint, you need to support suspension. Here, you need to get your hands on the jack. Support the suspension and use the jack for the job. And then you can easily take off the nut from the ball joint.
Step 4: Remove the Strut
After you are done with taking off the ball joint, you have to go through the lower strut mounting bolts. All you need to do is take them off and that’s all!
It’s time to have a look at the upper strut ABS clips. Check the mounting nuts and get your hands on the upper strut ABS clips. With your hands, unclip the clips.
After unclipping them, you need to check the upper strut mounting nuts and take them off. Then, go through the suspension and lower it. And take off the strut assembly from your Chevy 2500hd.
Step 5: Achieve Adequate Compression
Get the strut and position it in the vice or go for the spring compressor. It’s time to relieving the tension for disassembly. For this, you have to make work of the spring compressor.
Make it work and relieve tension. Here, the spring will be under severe tension. So, you must be careful while going through the process. During the process, you will see a gap there. Stop right at that moment.
Step 6: Place the Strut Bushing
Check the top retaining nut first and then take it off! Next, you have to remove the upper retaining plate. Once you have removed it, get your hands on the foam bump stop. Carefully, take it off and then go to the press-in studs. Do the same for this; remove it!
Check the mounting plate and divide it into two halves. Hold the inner rubber bushing and take it off. Get a hold of the OE strut bushing. With your hands, position it between the two halves of the mounting plate.
Step 7: Add the Sway Bar and Brake Brackets
When you are done with placing the strut brushing, you are ready to install mounting studs. Into the countersink holes, set the mounting studs. And then, you have to tighten them. Once it is properly assembled, you have to add a tight fitted OR bump stop here. Add OE nut here and get your hands on a wrench to tighten it down.
Now you can set up the strut assembly. Make sure you are using new nuts on top of the OE ones. You need to connect the ball joint to the spindle. For this, raise the suspension. It’s time to depress the ball joint into the spindle.
Get a pry bar to do this job for it. It’s time to add the nut and tighten the spec. For keeping the ball joint stem in the right place, an Allen wrench can be amazing. You are done already! Now your job is to add the sway bar end link and the brake brackets!
